The intermittency of renewable energy sources makes the use storage systems (ESSs) indispensable in modern power grids for supply-demand balancing and reliability enhancement. Besides pumped-storage hydroelectric stations, deployment worldwide is still quite low. However, status quo might rapidly change as technologies are growing facilitating market regulations being ratified. Battery (BESSs), Li-ion batteries particular, possess attractive properties taking over other types technologies. Thus, this article, we review evaluate current state art managing grid-connected BESSs their participation electricity markets. mainly includes battery modeling, architecture management (BMSs), incorporation services, global utility-scale facilities, challenges implementing BESSs.
